I remember my first encounter with make-up. It was more of curiosity than a need. I was about 10 when I visited my Nanna and noticed that she had left her foundation on the bathroom vanity. I placed an oily slick of rose beige on my finger and began to apply. Before long, I resembled a young Edward Sissorhands minus the mascara. From that I realised that even if you’re not a ‘make-uppy’ person, a good foundation and concealer are worth investing in.
Last night I followed the call of the sirens into the depths of MAC Cosmetics at James St, Brisbane for the launch of the Alluring Aquatic range. I stepped into store, where I was greeted with champagne and ridiculously good-looking faces. Guests were invited to try products and have a stylist customise their look. I saw them transform from the weather beaten into their fashion forward selves. Modernising their look and refreshing faces to reveal the underwater goddess in us all.
I am guilty of using the same look all year round and have wanted to be more adventurous with colours, seasons and contouring. This was the perfect opportunity to learn to style tricks and tips with make up and learn why primers are so important, especially in the Australian Climate. Special note to the manager of the store Lauren for introducing me to the Lightful skin care, which has stopped my skin from looking like the Simpson Desert!
My choice for new “must have” items would be “Submerged” Nail Lacquer. It’s a shimmery teal colour that makes a statement when coordinating with my winter style. The luminous eye shadows complement the lacquer just like in the fashion world when shoes match the clutch.
No detail was left out in the Alluring Aquatic range with a limited edition teal packaging, accented with a texturised water droplet finish. Gives an instant impression of a scene set under the sea, nails glisten in aquatic chrome and metallic, as lipstick, lip-gloss and lip pencil dive deep into colour.
Keep an eye out for teal to remain a strong trend this season. For Lorde fans and lipstick aficionados watch out for the collaboration of Lorde with MAC on Pure Heroine, a limited edition lipstick in a deep, rich shade of plum with an amplified finish.
